Zita Thompson

Each year I have my students write a biopoem that helps define who they are: their likes, fears, goals, and feelings. My biopoem begins with four personal traits: organized, caring, helpful, and at times crazy. It helps that I repeat phrases in song, demonstate vocabulary words, and draw stick figures to illustrate an idea. I like yellow roses, hot fudge sundaes, and basketball. My yearly goals include seeing that all learners succeed, and travelling to unique places. I have now visited all 50 U.S. states, much of Canada and Mexico, most of western Europe including Russia, much of Asia, Australia, northern New Zealand, and some of the Caribbean Islands. I was raised in Albany, New York, have lived in New York City, suburban Chicago, Hong Kong, and now Miami. As a mother of two grown children, I enjoy spending vacation time with them and their families. My son and daughter were born in Illinois, but grew up in Hong Kong. So their homes mirror their lives both stateside and abroad. I consider myself well rounded. I enjoy various athletic events, music, art, photography, and food. Since I am a collector, many think my home looks like a museum; Often my collections find their way into the classroom. The varied experiences I have had over the last half century and into this century, continue to spark my enthusiasm to see more, and then share this with my students.
