Julie Diekema

My name is Julie Diekema and I just recently moved to Miami from Michigan. I am pleased to be a part of the GRASP program in the elementary school. My hometown is Zeeland, a tiny little town about 40 minutes west of Grand Rapids, where I grew up with my mom, dad, and two younger sisters. I lived close to Lake Michigan and many times during the summer we would spend an afternoon swimming in the lake. I attended Calvin College to pursue a degree in special education. I thoroughly enjoyed my classes, tutoring, student teaching, and any other time that I could get into a classroom and work with students. At college I was blessed with great friends, great teachers, and an atmosphere that encouraged my walk with God. In my free time I love to curl up at home with a good book! If I am not reading I am usually listening to music, scrapbooking, out with friends, or (now that I live in Miami) sitting by the pool. While I was growing up my family would take summer trips out west to many different national parks. As a result, I also like to camp, hike, and enjoy the creation God has blessed us with. I am so excited to get to know Miami better! I look forward to exploring the city, beaches, Everglades, and as many other places as I can. It is very different from Michigan, but I can’t say that I’ll miss the snow that much! I am also looking forward to getting to know the Westminster Christian School community. This is a school where you can see God working and I feel blessed to be a part of it this year.
